Acoforag invoked Convention 187 of the International Labour Organization, which ensures safety and health in the workplace.

"That is not the case for forestry workers," criticized union leader René Muñoz.

The Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag) filed a complaint against the State of Chile before the International Labour Organization (ILO) due to the climate of insecurity faced by workers in the industry in the country's Southern Macrozone.

The action was submitted on October 12 and invokes ILO Convention 187, which Chile signed in 2011, committing to promote and guarantee occupational safety and health.

"That is not happening for forestry workers and employers, which is why we filed this complaint," said René Muñoz, manager of Acoforag.

"We believe what is happening to them should draw the Government's attention. That is what we seek—to modify actions so that programs and measurable measures are implemented to restore safety and peace to the country's forests," he stated.

According to the union leader, the complaint has already been approved for processing by the ILO.
