Governor of La Araucanía: One expects authorities to be present in the area at a strategic level
The governor of La Araucanía, Luciano Rivas, criticized the statement by the presidential delegate of Biobío, Daniela Dresdner, where she claimed that for now they have "no way to control" the acts of violence in the area.
In a conversation with El Diario de Cooperativa, Rivas stated that he finds "a statement of that nature from a regional authority very complex."
"I believe one of the fundamental roles of the State and the Government is to protect and deploy all the security control tools available to the State, and I think that kind of statement weakens the Government's image. I also find the way she avoids facing the media quite inappropriate," criticized the regional authority.
"One would expect authorities on security matters to be much more present and working with strategies alongside the central level. The truth is, the situation is very complicated," warned the governor.
The regional authority also criticized the lifting of the state of emergency in the area, stating, "it has already been two weeks since this State of Emergency left the region (and) just to give one example, we woke up to another attack in the commune of Padre Las Casas, in the same place where yesterday's attack occurred; two early mornings in the same location."
"There is no clear strategy, no clear concern regarding this issue. I think more than a dose of reality, what one expects in these cases is this need for strategy, for intelligence, which unfortunately we are not seeing," he concluded.
FORESTRY CONTRACTORS
Meanwhile, René Muñóz, president of the forestry contractors, commented on the violence in the area, saying, "it is nothing more than a sign of what these terrorist and violent groups are causing to the productive sector and the region as a whole. If one extrapolates this to what is happening in other regions, like Arauco province, we see that disorder and lack of control also manifest in attacks on Carabineros, attacks on vans, and attacks on workers."
"The environment in these two regions is becoming increasingly dangerous and unsafe," he stated.
The Trade Association of Small and Medium-Sized Wood Industries, for its part, called on the authorities of the area to lead a new peace agreement, inviting all political and social sectors of Biobío, La Araucanía, and Los Ríos.
