First month of government: "It's the most violent March since 2014"
The Association of Forestry Contractors -Acoforag- referred to the assessment made by the guild in these first 30 days of President Gabriel Boric's government, where they denounced "the most violent month of March" in the last eight years.
Through a statement, the forestry contractors indicated that in this first month of the new government, the figures show "12 arson attacks on equipment and forestry workers: Four in the Biobío region and eight in the La Araucanía region. Twelve attacks in the last 30 days, making this March the most violent on record since January 2014. These arson attacks in the provinces of Arauco and La Araucanía have affected 14 companies providing forestry services, impacting 1,400 workers associated with them."
They also added that "in these attacks, three workers were injured, fortunately without fatal consequences," emphasizing that "every 2.5 days, an attack is carried out that weakens our work and the freedom of entrepreneurship in these primarily timber-producing development zones."
Finally, they stressed that "we will not stop insisting on calls for this government to take seriously the problem affecting us, which is undoubtedly embedded in a cultural conflict requiring progress in dialogue, but also needing a plan or strategy for criminal and terrorist prosecution that cannot be ignored. We emphasize the need for a special focus on the violence affecting us as a guild, due to the strategic importance of this productive sector for these regions. We are available to contribute and support in this focus," concluded the statement.
