Amid discussions between the Government and the Association of Forestry Contractors, who are leading protests on roads across the country, the manager of the group reported that they presented a counterproposal to the Executive. This proposal involves introducing a bill to classify highways as critical infrastructure, which would allow military patrols.

The manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors, René Muñoz, held a meeting this Tuesday morning with the presidential delegate of Bío Bío, Daniela Dresdner, where they presented a counterproposal to the Government regarding their demands for security on the roads of the Southern Macrozona.

In a conversation with Radio Bío Bío, Muñoz stated that the main sticking point in negotiations with the Executive is related to legislative matters.

He revealed that a bill would be introduced for "critical infrastructure, which would allow the military to patrol strategic, rural, public roads and highways." This would not require declaring a state of emergency.

The manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors expressed optimism about this initiative.

"The delegate told us that they are also in a hurry because the movement is gaining momentum. We have support from other guilds. We want to return to work in the forests, we want security, and we understand that this bill aligns with that goal," he added.

Muñoz clarified that the security issue does not only affect transporters in Bío Bío or La Araucanía but also in the north, where—he claimed—"there is rampant crime with frequent thefts of goods."

Therefore, he reiterated that the bill "could be an interesting solution proposed by this government, which differs from what happened in the previous administration."
