René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), stated that the aforementioned capture "is very good news not only for forestry contractors but also for the industry in the regions of Bío Bío and La Araucanía."

A series of reactions followed the arrest of members of an operational wing of the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM) after an arson attack in Quilleco, Bío Bío region, with one of those captured being a nephew of Héctor Llaitul Carrillanca, the historic leader of CAM.

One such reaction came from the president of Corma, Juan José Ugarte, who praised what he described as the "swift and effective action by Carabineros."

"Leaving behind the impunity that has prevailed in recent years is, without a doubt, the best way to restore peace, as only through active justice can we return rural residents their right to live in a safe environment," he added.

Meanwhile, Fernando Fuentealba, president of the Chilean Foundation for Victims of Terrorism in the Southern Macrozone, expressed his "congratulations" for the arrests made by police personnel.

"We hope that this time, justice will do its job well and keep them imprisoned," Fuentealba added.

For his part, René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), stated that the aforementioned capture "is very good news not only for forestry contractors but also for the industry in the regions of Bío Bío and La Araucanía."

"This is a major breakthrough, even though it is only the third time in ten years that suspects have been caught in the act," he emphasized, also congratulatingCarabineros.

Similarly, Deputy Joanna Pérez stated that "we value the actions of Carabineros," adding that "we believe the Government should also file a formal complaint today."

Republican Senator Carmen Gloria Aravena noted that the arrest of members of CAM's operational wing "is a positive step toward dismantling this and other dangerous radical organizations operating in the Southern Macrozone."

"This shows that resources must be allocated so that police forces can respond swiftly," said Deputy Stephan Schubert of the same party.

Her counterpart from the People's Party, Karen Medina, stated that "our police acted in time, and five people—five terrorists—are now detained."

"This is how the State must work," added DC Deputy Eric Aedo.

The Arrest of CAM's Operational Wing

Early this Friday morning, an arson attack occurred at kilometer 25 of Route Q-45—the road to Antuco—in the commune of Quilleco, Bío Bío province.

There, at least two trucks were burned, and one of the drivers was injured. A banner was also found at the scene with the slogan "forestry companies out" and demanding the release of so-called Mapuche political prisoners.

The pamphlet found was signed by a territorial resistance group (ORT) linked to the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM).

During the deployment of Carabineros, five people were arrested at the scene.

Those arrested were identified as Axel Cristóbal Campos Vivallo; Roberto Alejandro Garling Infanta; Óscar Hernán Cayupán Calfín; José Ignacio Lienqueo Márquez; and Bastián Andrés Llaitul Vergara.

The latter is the cousin of Ernesto Llaitul, the son of Héctor Llaitul Carrillanca.
