Government Strengthens Coordination to Ensure Security in La Araucanía
- René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), emphasized the urgency of normalizing productive activity in the region.
The La Araucanía Region, which has witnessed a recent increase in arson attacks in the Southern Macrozone, is at the center of a new government strategy. The goal is to ensure security in the region, especially in anticipation of the upcoming harvest season. The announcement was made by Presidential Delegate José Montalva, who stressed the need for greater coordination between the government, productive guilds, and security forces.
The current situation in La Araucanía is critical, with a rise in violent acts, particularly in the province of Malleco. To address this issue, the Government has promoted unprecedented collaboration involving forestry guilds, farmers, and security forces, including Carabineros, the Army, the Investigative Police (PDI), and the Public Ministry. Together, they are developing a comprehensive agro-food security plan.
José Montalva, the regional presidential delegate, highlighted the importance of this coordination: "It is essential to generate changes for improvement. In that sense, decisions are obviously being made to improve, also as events evolve. Indeed, we had areas where many incidents were occurring, and that has visibly decreased, which obviously means they may arise elsewhere. Now, the strategy with the guilds is also very important."
The coordination table, which has been operational for several weeks, is a continuous effort to plan and ensure security for the upcoming harvest season. The representative of the Agricultural Development Society (SOFO), Andreas Köbrich, emphasized the continuity of this work, stating that "it has practically never stopped, as once one season ends, we begin preparing for the next, with informational meetings and planning for grain harvesting."
René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), stressed the urgency of normalizing productive activity in the region. He stated that the prolonged conflict has significantly harmed the local economy, hindering construction, road repairs, forestry work, and tourism activities. The strategy proposed by the regional delegate is considered an essential step toward the region's recovery.
The Government, in collaboration with guilds and security forces, is determined to address security challenges in La Araucanía and work together to ensure a safer and more prosperous environment in the region, especially in the coming months.
