San Juan de la Costa ranks among the municipalities most affected by arson attacks in the Los Lagos Region

This was confirmed by René Muñoz from the association of forestry contractors, who provided figures regarding the impact of arson attacks in the Los Lagos Region, stating that San Juan de la Costa accounts for 63% of these attacks, with 12 incidents occurring in the last 10 years. Although these violent acts occur intermittently, there has been a sustained increase in the southern part of the country, added Muñoz.
The representative alluded to the formation of Mapuche advocacy groups, noting that there are currently around 8 groups operating in the southern macrozone of the country.
The attacks are concentrated in this productive sector, which is why "The forestry sector is deeply affected," stated the representative of the forestry contractors' association, a condition that has remained unfavorable since 1997, as he specified.
