Amid tensions in the Southern Macrozone due to the start of the oral trial against Ernesto Llaitul, son of the leader of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM) Héctor Llaitul, and the arrest of Temucuicui spokesperson Mijael Carvones, a new arson attack against trucks was recorded.

After 7:00 AM this Thursday, Carabineros received a call from a person reporting that at kilometer 9 of Route 60-P, connecting Los Sauces with Purén in the province of Malleco, three hooded individuals with short and long firearms set fire to two cargo vehicles before fleeing.

At the scene, uniformed police officers confirmed the details reported by the complainant and also interviewed the victims, who recounted that the attackers blocked their path and fired shots into the air, forcing them to stop. They then made the drivers exit the vehicles and doused the trucks with fuel before igniting them.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and no banners or signs were found.

The Public Ministry ordered investigations by Labocar personnel and the OS-9 Department of Carabineros in La Araucanía.

Tohá: "Arrests and these trials will continue"

From the north, during an event in Antofagasta, Interior and Public Security Minister Carolina Tohá confirmed that the government would file a lawsuit when asked about the incident.

"That attack will be prosecuted," the minister stated, noting that "fortunately, the drivers of the vehicles were not injured."

"We don’t know beforehand, but it’s possible this is linked to situations the region is experiencing these days, which precisely reflect progress we’ve made in investigating other attacks of this kind," she said, alluding to the trial of the CAM leader’s son and Carvones' arrest.

"Some may think that reprisals like these will deter investigative and prosecutorial actions, but that won’t be the case. Those arrests and trials will continue, and these attacks will also be investigated to hold those responsible accountable," the State Secretary affirmed.
