The Oral Criminal Court of Los Ángeles sentenced Ernesto Llaitul, son of the spokesperson for the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), Héctor Llaitul, along with other defendants, to serve over 14 years in prison after being found guilty of a series of crimes.
In addition to Llaitul, Esteban Henríquez, Ricardo Delgado, and Roberto Villouta were sentenced to prison terms of 10 years and one day as perpetrators of two attempted homicides; 4 years and 6 months for completed arson of a truck; and 300 days for attempted arson of a truck.
Previously, Llaitul and four other community members were convicted for an arson attack that occurred on November 9, 2021, near the Salto del Laja in the Biobío Province.
At the scene, they burned one truck and attempted to burn two others at the "Punta Arenas" estate. In its indictment, the Biobío Regional Prosecutor's Office sought five years in prison for Llaitul and three other community members for the crimes of completed arson, attempted arson, and two counts of attempted homicide, while another defendant was charged as an accomplice in the incident.
