Arson attack destroys event center in Capitán Pastene
An arson attack was reported last night in the town of Capitán Pastene, in the commune of Lumaco, destroying the Nueva Italia Event Center.
The incident occurred on the road to Chanco, near kilometer seven, where the event center was completely burned down, along with a cabin located inside the premises.
This was confirmed to Radio Bío Bío by Ítalo Leoneli, son of Nancy Leoneli, one of the owners of the place, who described the incident as an attack.
This claim was made because they had previously received threats, and because the perpetrators cut through a fence that had been installed twenty days earlier to access the event center.
Firefighters, Carabineros (Chilean police), and Army personnel worked at the scene.
Although no pamphlets were found at the site, the ORT-Nagche Mañil Wenu of the Arauco Malleco Coordinator claimed responsibility for the "arson sabotage against the Nueva Italia Restaurant, owned by the far-right Leoneli Rathgeb families."
In this regard, they stated that the attack in Capitán Pastene was in response to the sentencing of the 4 imprisoned Mapuche members of the CAM and in support of their hunger strike, as reported by the outletWekén Noticias.
