Arson Attacks and Roadblocks Shake Biobío
Four homes burned and three routes blocked mark a day of violence in the Biobío region, as authorities work to restore order.
During the morning, the Biobío region was the scene of a violent arson attack that resulted in the destruction of four homes and the obstruction of three major routes. According to reports from 24 Horas, unknown individuals set fire to an uninhabited house at kilometer 48 of Route P-60-R, while three other homes were burned near Lake Lanalhue at kilometer 44. Additionally, Carabineros reported blockades on Route P-72S and two points along P-60-R, one of them accompanied by a banner demanding the "immediate return of Peñi Camilo Catrileo to Lebu."
The presidential delegate of the area, Daniela Dresdner, confirmed that the roadblocks have already been cleared and traffic has been restored. She also reported the burning of cabins in the Contulmo sector and assured that authorities are on their way to assess the situation. Dresdner described the events as "absolutely unacceptable" and promised that efforts will be relentless to ensure those responsible face justice.
Colonel Oscar Sandoval, prefect of Arauco, stated that no injuries were reported as the affected properties were unoccupied. The details of the incident have been submitted to the Cañete Prosecutor's Office, which has delegated the investigation to the Special Police Investigations Brigade (BIPE) of the Investigative Police (PDI).
