Acoforag Rejects Proposal by INDH Director to Dialogue with CAM
In response to the statements made by Consuelo Contreras, director of the National Institute of Human Rights (INDH), who suggested in an interview with a nationally circulated newspaper that "a sort of truce must be established (with the Arauco Malleco Coordinator, CAM) and a halt to violent actions, but they must be brought to the table to resolve the problems they have or raise because, otherwise, acts of violence will continue on the margins," the Association of Forestry Contractors A.G. (Acoforag) declares the following:
- It is irresponsible and reckless for a state official, working in a human rights institution that has never concerned itself with the human rights of the thousands of victims of terrorist groups, to express this opinion.
- Enough of enlightened individuals from Santiago proposing ideological solutions under circumstances they do not understand, nor have they ever set foot in the territory, let alone suffered what many victims in southern Chile have endured.
- We believe in a political solution to the endless cycle of violence that currently exists in the southern macro-zone, but this must arise from the consensus of the inhabitants who are now suffering and who understand its origin and solution.
