The Chilean forestry industry, a global example of sustainability
- Guillermo Turner, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager of CMPC, participated in a new episode of Acoforag's online program.
In the 30th edition of the program "Conversando con Acoforag," Guillermo Turner, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager of CMPC, was the guest. He discussed the significant achievement that positions this Chilean company and the national forestry sector as global leaders in sustainability.
CMPC was recognized as the most sustainable company in the world in the forestry and paper sector by the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). This reflects years of effort to implement better environmental, social, and corporate governance practices.
During the interview, Turner shared details about this global recognition, the challenges they have faced, and how they have worked hand in hand with local communities to drive positive change together.
Some initiatives that highlight their commitment include the establishment of a DUOC UC campus in Nacimiento, Biobío Region, to increase access to education; the development of the "Bosque Vivo" project to promote tourism and beekeeping around their plantations; and their ambitious biodiversity conservation strategy, which adds 100,000 new hectares of protected land.
Beyond the well-deserved pride in CMPC's achievement, what became even clearer in the conversation is that an entire sector has been adopting these standards. Therefore, this first-place global ranking is a recognition of the Chilean forestry industry as a whole.
Only through coordinated participation among communities, companies, and workers can a virtuous cycle be created, fostering the sustainable development of a region.
