A man who was stealing wood from a forest property in Curanilahue was arrested
A 47-year-old man was caught in the act inside a forest property owned by the company Arauco, stealing wood with a pickup truck, and was arrested by officers from the Fourth Police Station of Curanilahue.
The man was using a chainsaw to cut two cubic meters of eucalyptus wood, which he was loading into the pickup truck, and had also damaged 30 other trees of the same species.
The stolen and damaged wood amounts to an estimated value of around 2 million 600 thousand pesos.
The man had a prior record for the crime of wood theft and was under the precautionary measure of nighttime house arrest, with a prohibition on approaching the company's properties. He was placed at the disposal of the judiciary for a new formal hearing.
