Carabineros arrested a man this Friday afternoon accused of starting a forest fire in the Juan Riquelme area of Concepción, in the Bío Bío region.

The fire broke out in the area of the former sawmill, in the Palomares sector.

The arrest of the 37-year-old man was carried out by personnel from the Carabineros SIAT, who, upon passing through the area, found the man with items suitable for starting a fire, though it was not specified whether it was an accelerant.

This was reported by Lieutenant Alejandro Lizama of the Concepción SIAT, stating that the man "was performing fire ignition actions, which led to his inspection, verifying that his clothing contained items for the commission of this crime."

The man has no prior criminal record.

Firefighters, brigades, and aerial units are battling the fire, which is spreading rapidly due to the wind in the area.

Due to the ongoing work in the area and the presence of firefighting units, there is vehicular congestion in the Palomares sector, heading toward Cabrero.
