Los Sauces: Pellet Gun Attack on Forest Brigade Bus Leaves One Injured
A forest brigade worker was injured during a pellet gun attack that occurred on Friday afternoon in the commune of Los Sauces, Araucanía Region.
A minibus carrying workers from Forestal Arauco, who had left the San Luis estate to extinguish a fire, was shot at by unknown individuals hidden in the bushes.
Carabineros Major Patricio Gallardo explained that the victim "suffered an injury caused by shrapnel from a ballistic impact, for which he was immediately transferred to the Cesfam in the commune of Los Sauces."
The injuries to his head were classified as minor, and he is not in life-threatening condition.
"The Public Prosecutor's Office was informed of the incident and instructed personnel from Labocar to identify those responsible and the circumstances under which these events occurred," added the officer.
"This year, two forest workers have now been shot at in their workplace," noted René Muñoz, leader of the Association of Forestry Contractors.
The union leader questioned, "Who is accountable for this situation? Who takes responsibility as an authority for what forest workers endure while doing their jobs?"
Despite a large deployment of Carabineros along with the Investigative Police, supported by the military, it was not possible to locate those responsible for this violent act.
