5 people arrested for timber theft in Tirúa: chainsaws and fuel drums seized
On Tuesday,five people were arrested for the crime of timber theftinTirúa,the Bío Bío region.
Specifically, the arrests occurred after a complaint was filed regarding the theft of timber in the Colcuma area, in the province of Arauco.
There, the men had allegedly been cutting down various types of trees, primarily a 10-year-old eucalyptus.
Following this incident, Carabineros from the Sub-station, with support from public order control personnel and the Navy, managed to locate five individuals on a forestry property.
The suspects were found and arrested by the officers. They were in possession of various tools, including: two chainsaws, four axes, three loading picks, bottles, and fuel drums.
"Carabineros proceeded to arrest five adults, who were caught in the act of stealing timber from the property," said the prefect of Arauco, Colonel Óscar Sandoval.
Finally, these details and evidence were handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, where the detainees will undergo a detention hearing tomorrow, Wednesday.
