Carabineros Operation Against Timber Theft Ends with 6 Arrested
Units from the Fresia Tenencia and Carabineros of Puerto Varas arrived at this location, supported by personnel from the Eighth Public Order Control Police Station (COP) of Puerto Montt, following information about the theft of wood inside a forest property belonging to the company AnChile.
In coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office, Carabineros conducted an extensive on-site operation, which led to the arrest of a total of six people—four men and two women—in flagrante delicto, meaning while they were carrying out the tasks. The suspects were caught using a truck and two pickup trucks, vehicles that, along with chainsaws, axes, and other tools, were being used to cut down eucalyptus trees and load the timber.
The officer explained that four of the suspects were arrested two kilometers inside the property while cutting wood and loading two pickup trucks, while the other two individuals were apprehended as they were leaving the property with a vehicle loaded with freshly cut timber.
In addition to the arrests, Carabineros seized three vehicles and various tools used in the crime, such as chainsaws, axes, and fuel containers. The estimated value of the stolen wood amounts to 4 million 300 thousand pesos.
Under instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the individuals will appear this morning for a detention control hearing.
