The National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile (CNDC) addressed the attack against a driver recorded on Wednesday on Route 5 South, which left the victim wounded by a gunshot.

The incident occurred amid various events that took place in the Province of Malleco, including an attempt by several individuals to enter a police station with the aim of "recovering" a harvest that had been seized last February.

The attack on the truck driver took place near the Pidima area, in the commune of Ercilla, while the driver—who was transporting forestry products—was heading north. It was then that he was struck by a bullet in the shoulder.

"The CNDC stands in solidarity with our colleague and demands justice from the prosecutor's office," the union stated in a brief announcement published on social media. The attack victim, identified by the CNDC as Camilo Montenegro, was assisted by Carabineros and taken to Collipulli Hospital.

However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Angol Hospital. "He was conscious (...) we hope his condition does not worsen," said General Manuel Cifuentes, Chief of the IX Araucanía Zone.
