The Naín-Retamal Law Takes Effect After Publication in the Official Gazette
Less than a week after its enactment by President Gabriel Boric and following its publication in the Official Gazette, Law No. 21,560, also known as the Naín-Retamal Law, is expected to take effect starting today.
It is worth recalling that the law aims to protect police work and increase penalties for those who attack officers of Carabineros, the Investigative Police (PDI), and Gendarmerie.
In this regard, the new law comes after the murder of Carabineros Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Daniel Palma Yáñez, who died after being shot twice in the face during an operation in downtown Santiago last Wednesday.
From the government, Undersecretary of the Interior Manuel Monsalve stated that the law could be applied retroactively in other cases, such as the recent incident in San Antonio.
