The commune of Santa Juana, in the Biobío region, was one of the hardest hit by the forest fires that occurred in the south-central area of the country during February of this year, where over 50,000 homes were destroyed by the flames.

Following the emergency, a significant contingent of cadets from the Carabineros Officers' School and the Training School—comprising 25 officer candidates and 25 cadets—arrived in the eighth region to assist in reconstruction efforts alongside volunteers from Techo para Chile and Junaeb. They were joined by two instructor lieutenants and four non-commissioned officers, bringing the total to 56.

These efforts aim to help families with housing reconstruction tasks. Previously, they had already contributed by assisting with cleanup and debris removal. To achieve this, they formed teams alongside collaborators from Techo para Chile and Junaeb to prepare the land of affected families, marking the start of the long-awaited reconstruction of their homes.

Lieutenants Matias Utreras Herrera and Raúl Alarcón, who are overseeing these tasks, stated that the future officers and non-commissioned officers of the institution feel deeply satisfied and proud to be able to assist their fellow citizens affected by the forest fires that ravaged the region.

Lieutenant Utreras added that from the very first moment of this forest emergency, Carabineros de Chile has collaborated in the crisis, first by providing security to people, rescuing affected families, and their pets.
