Massive operation conducted following report of timber theft inside forestry property in Cañete
Carabineros (Chilean police) and Navy personnel carried out this Thursday morning amassive operation in the commune of Cañete—located in theBío Bío region—due to a report of timber theft in a forestry property.
The operation is taking place in the mountainous area of Chacay, inside a property owned bythe company Forestal Arauco.
This was prompted by a report filed on May 2, whichalerted authorities to the alleged illegal logging and timber extraction.
Based on this information, over 300 officers from the Public Order Control unit ofCarabinerosand the Navy were deployed this morning, along with 20 armored vehicles.
The presidential delegate of Arauco province, Humberto Toro, stated that the operation is fully underway, clarifying that it is part of ongoing efforts in the area to combat this lucrative illegal trade in the Southern Macrozone.
