Wave of attacks in La Araucanía hours before the one-year anniversary of the state of emergency: Two shot and machinery burned
Hours before the one-year anniversary of the state of emergency, the La Araucanía region has been hit by a series of violent attacks, leaving at least three people injured and two machines burned.
According to preliminary information, in the Quechereguas area, in the commune of Traiguén, two people were shot at the "Las Toscas" farm.
The incident occurred when a farmer was driving his truck escorting a tractor, at which point the victims were intercepted by hooded individuals traveling in another truck who opened fire.
Afterward, the truck driver reached a neighbor's house, who then transported him in the same truck to Victoria Hospital with an abdominal gunshot wound.
The tractor driver suffered injuries to his left shoulder, apparently from a shotgun blast. Additionally, a third victim arrived at Victoria Hospital—a truck driver attacked by the same individuals at the "El Alba" farm in the Quechereguas area.
The victim stated he was guarding his truck when another vehicle with hooded individuals passed by, struck him in the head with a rifle butt, doused the cabin with accelerant, and set it on fire. As a result, the First Proceedings Prosecutor's Office ordered the deployment of the PDI's Bipe and Lacrim units.
High-complexity prosecutor Felipe González stated, "A group of individuals first attacked a tractor driver working on a property, who suffered a ballistic impact to his shoulder. They then allegedly attacked the property owner, who sustained a ballistic wound to the abdominal area."
This forced both victims to go to Victoria Hospital, where the one with the abdominal injury is currently "stable." Both also underwent surgery.
Route between Vilcún and Lautaro
A third incident occurred on the route between Vilcún and Lautaro in the La Araucanía Region, where the attackers arrived in a vehicle at a farm and burned machinery.
According to General Manuel Cifuentes, head of the Araucanía zone, at least four individuals arrived at the area and "proceeded to set fire to a backhoe that was operating at the site."
Additionally, a banner demanding the release of Mapuche prisoners was left at the scene. The suspects fled on foot, and Carabineros personnel initiated a pursuit, but the individuals evaded police action. Cifuentes also confirmed that "the truck used in the crime was recovered; it had been stolen in an arson attack on a fish farm," an incident that occurred in Vilcún.
