8 Members of Gang Dedicated to Timber Theft in the Los Lagos Region Arrested
An investigation conducted over several months by the Investigative Police, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office, led to the arrest of 8 individuals allegedly part of a criminal organization dedicated to timber theft in theLos Lagos region.
According to information gathered by Radio Bío Bío in Puerto Montt, the operations included raids on homes in the commune of Fresia.
Prosecutor Marcelo Sambuceti, from the Criminal Analysis Unit of the Los Lagos Regional Prosecutor's Office, confirmed the information and provided some details related to the case, clarifying that the crime affected a forestry company.
"Today (Thursday), a coordinated operation previously arranged between the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigative Police's Robbery Brigade in the commune of Fresia was carried out, resulting in the arrest of 8 individuals linked to timber theft," the prosecutor reported.
He added that the investigation established the involvement of 8 individuals in a "criminal organization associated with this type of crime."
The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Guarantee Court in Puerto Varas, where their formal charges will be filed this afternoon.
