Blockade of 8 illegal roads in La Araucanía aims to improve military deployment in the area
The National Defense Chief inLa Araucanía, General Rafael Cabrera, admitted that the military strategy in the region will change following the new State of Exception decree, which allows deployment across the entire territory and not just on main roads.
Additionally, the Government's announcement about blocking clandestine roads leading to Route 5 South—which have been used as escape routes by perpetrators of arson attacks—will provide assistance for military mobility in the area.
This extension of the State of Exception in the Macrozone eliminated the order to prioritize security on main roads, sparking debate and criticism from the opposition.
With this document in effect, the National Defense Chief in La Araucanía, General Rafael Cabrera, acknowledged that he now has freedom of action to alter plans, something he also confirmed after inquiries from Radio Bío Bío.
"The Defense Chief retains his authority and now has the freedom to implement new strategies according to situations arising in the region, allowing us to focus on certain actions we are implementing (...) yes, we will change the strategy," he stated.
Eight illegal roads will be blocked
According to the Presidential Delegate, José Montalva, this will help improve the deployment of military forces in the area.
"There are 8 that are already being closed (...) we have records of violent incidents where these unauthorized roads were used for quick escapes—meaning they would exit onto Route 5 South, carry out the attack, and then flee again through these routes, making it difficult for the police and the army to respond promptly," he explained.
In addition to blocking these 8 illegal routes, another 9 remain pending for blockade between the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the La Araucanía Route Concessionaire. All of them are concentrated between Collipulli and Victoria.
