The Valdivia Prosecutor's Office reported this Saturday that it is investigating an intentional truck arson carried out in the Camán area of the Paillaco commune in the Los Ríos Region, where construction work is underway for a wind park belonging to the company Mainstream Renewable Power, which labeled the attack as "terrorist."

The attack was carried out by individuals who arrived at the scene armed and with their faces covered, stated the prosecuting authority.

According to preliminary information gathered by Cooperativa, at least 12 trucks were affected by the flames.

The on-duty prosecutor instructed the Special Police Investigations Brigade (BIPE) and the forensic work at the scene to the Criminalistics Laboratory (Lacrim), both from the Investigative Police (PDI), to clarify the incident.

"TERRORIST ATTACK"

In a statement, Mainstream Renewable Power strongly condemned "the arson attack we suffered at the hands of a group of masked individuals, an act of violence that has caused material damage still under evaluation, including more than five trucks inside the park."

The company stated that "it is urgent to stop these types of attacks carried out by violent groups that threaten the safety of workers and local communities, which are our primary concern."

"During the attack, the terrorist group detained individuals who were later released unharmed," it added.

"Carabineros (police) are on-site. We are in contact with the authorities and have made ourselves available to assist in the investigation and report this serious incident, supporting every effort to restore public order and peace," Mainstream Renewable Power emphasized.

Finally, it recalled that "in 2022, the Camán wind park was the victim of another arson attack on one of the trucks owned by a contractor company providing services to the project."
