Over $150 Million in Equipment Seized in Illegal Logging Operation Between Cañete and Contulmo
An interagency operation successfully dismantled an illegal logging operation in the Fundo Lanalhue area, between the communes of Cañete and Contulmo, in theprovince of Arauco, on the morning of Wednesday, June 28. The investigation was led by Carabineros' OS-9 unit.
(Jedena) for the provinces of Arauco and Biobío, Rear Admiral Daniel Muñoz, stated that the investigation was initiated following a complaint filed by the forestry company Mininco.
The complaint "was accepted by the Public Prosecutor's Office, which ordered the confiscation of machinery used in the illegal activity, valued at over 150 million pesos," the officer explained.
The operation was carried out with ground and air resources under the National Defense Headquarters. Jointly deployed personnel included the Marine Infantry, Naval Aviation, OS-9 Carabineros, territorial units, and Public Order Control officers.
Additionally, the operation was supported by workers from the Mininco forestry company. The forestry staff provided the necessary equipment to dismantle and transport the confiscated machinery to the commune of Los Álamos.
Rear Admiral Muñoz added that "this joint interagency effort contributes to restoring security and public order in this province of the Biobío region."
