Chamber Approves New Extension of State of Emergency "with Modifications" in the Southern Macrozone

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Tuesday night a new extension of the state of emergency in the Southern Macrozone,which includes the Araucanía region and the provinces of Arauco and Bío Bío in the Bío Bío region.

"The Chamber once again supports the request of the President of the Republic to extend the state of emergency in the Southern Macrozone. It has been dispatched from Congress," the lower house reported on its Twitter account.

The constitutional state of emergency has been in effect in the southern macrozone since May 17, 2022, when the Ministry of the Interior decided to implement this measure in the provinces of Arauco and Bío Bío in the Bío Bío region, as well as the entire Araucanía region.

Unlike previous occasions, this state of emergency was approved with a series of changes, granting more powers to the Armed Forces and a larger budget.
