Violence effect: Forestry contractors warn of bankruptcy of a dozen companies and loss of 500 jobs

A dozen companies dedicated to forestry work went bankrupt during the first seven months of the year, leaving more than five hundred workers without a source of employment, according to figures from the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag).

This scenario, driven by unsafe working conditions and changes in international markets regarding timber demand, occurs amid the ruling by the International Labour Organization (ILO) that upheld the union's claim that the Chilean state has failed to comply with Convention 187 on Occupational Safety and Health.

On this matter, Acoforag's manager, René Muñoz, stated, "We want the Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara, to listen to us, to understand what we are asking for, and to know that the Chilean state is failing to comply with Convention 187, which is of vital importance to us and our workers."
