The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) highlighted the work carried out by nine firefighters from the La Araucanía Region who were combating wildfires in Canada.

Indeed, nine Conaf Araucanía employees were part of a delegation of 62 Chilean firefighters who spent over a month working to contain large-scale forest emergencies in Alberta.

"The nine colleagues from the Region who participated in the fires were commended by Canadian officials. They performed excellently. I especially want to highlight our Conaf Araucanía Fire Chief, Francisco Vargas, who was in charge of this entire firefighting contingent in support. We believe this is a recognition of the management and the wildfire team of Conaf in La Araucanía," said the regional director of Conaf, María Teresa Huentequeo.

IN ALBERTA

Several countries in the northern hemisphere are facing complex wildfires, but about five weeks ago, Canada's situation was particularly severe. For this reason, the deployment of a specialized Conaf contingent was arranged. They departed on June 12 to assist in the wildfire known as 'Long Lake,' located in a forested and swampy area about 800 kilometers north of the city of Edmonton.
