Red Alert in Biobío and Concepción Due to Extreme Heat Wave
- The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service declares a Red Alert in the provinces of Biobío and Concepción due to temperatures that could exceed 39°C.
In response to the imminent heat wave threatening extreme temperatures, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) raised the alert in the provinces of Biobío and Concepción to Red Alert. According to the latest report from the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC), temperatures are expected to reach and exceed 34°C for four consecutive days in valley and foothill areas of both provinces.
The measure, which modifies the previous Yellow Alert, was announced this morning through an official statement. The DMC, in its Public Weather Forecast issued at 06:00 hrs., warns of extreme heat with temperatures remaining between 36-39°C this Monday. The Red Alert, in effect since January 19, will remain until weather conditions improve and no longer pose a risk to the population.
The declaration of a Red Alert implies a state of maximum vigilance, with constant monitoring of risk conditions and associated vulnerabilities. Senapred, in coordination with the Regional Presidential Delegation, has activated the National Disaster Prevention and Response System (Senapred) to respond promptly to potential emergencies arising from the heat wave.
Authorities urge the public to take precautionary measures, such as avoiding sun exposure during peak radiation hours, staying hydrated, and paying attention to instructions from local authorities and emergency agencies. Special care is recommended for children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses, as they are more vulnerable to high temperatures.
Senapred will continue to provide updates on the situation and adjust necessary measures to ensure the safety of residents in the affected provinces.
