AI Cameras in the Fight Against Fires in Biobío
- Cutting-edge technology from China for wildfire prevention and safety in Curanilahue.
The Biobío Region takes a step forward in wildfire prevention and public safety with the arrival of state-of-the-art thermal cameras equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). These devices, sourced from China, will be installed in the commune of Curanilahue, aiming to monitor and respond quickly to potential fire outbreaks and criminal activities.
The 360-degree camera, weighing over 85 kilograms, can monitor an area of more than 15 kilometers, providing real-time satellite data to Firefighters, Senapred, Conaf, and the Municipality of Curanilahue. This technological advancement was made possible through collaboration with Dahua Chile, whose manager, Alex Zhang, highlighted the importance of implementing smart solutions to address wildfire challenges and their impact on communities and the environment.
The mayor of Curanilahue, Alejandra Burgos, expressed gratitude for her commune being chosen for this pilot project, emphasizing that nearly 90% of Curanilahue's territory is covered by forest plantations, significantly increasing fire risks. Additionally, Burgos noted that the technology will not only aid in fire prevention but also help combat vandalism and crime in the area.
This project exemplifies how collaboration between public and private entities, along with advanced technology, can enhance safety and protect a region's natural resources.
