  • The Williche Kunko-Millallikan Territorial Resistance Organization of the CAM claimed responsibility for the attack against the forestry company, sending a clear message to the government.

In a violent dawn, the tranquility of Río Negro in the Los Lagos region was shattered by an arson attack that devastated part of the facilities of the forestry company ANChile. The Williche Kunko-Millallikan Territorial Resistance Organization, part of the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement released by Werken Noticias. The incident, which took place in the Putrihue-Millantue sector, resulted in the destruction of two forestry machines, two vehicles, and a container used as an office.

The attack, carried out around 05:45 this Friday, began when a group of individuals stormed the property, threatening security guards before proceeding to set fire to the equipment using accelerants. Despite the severity of the incident, no injuries or casualties were reported.

The CAM's claim of responsibility for the attack not only included the destruction of property but also a strong political message. In their statement, the organization demanded the release of Mapuche political prisoners (PPM) and expressed their rejection of forestry companies and military forces in Mapuche territory, known as Wallmapu. Additionally, the CAM warned President Gabriel Boric and Minister Carolina Tohá about their welcome in the region, in the context of upcoming official visits.

Authorities launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Carabineros and the Special Police Investigations Brigade of Valdivia, along with experts from the Regional Criminalistics Laboratory in Puerto Montt, are working to gather evidence to clarify the circumstances and determine responsibility for the attack.

This incident adds to a series of violent acts that have affected the region in recent times, highlighting the ongoing tension between the Chilean state and Mapuche groups demanding rights over their ancestral lands.
