Leader of RML and financier among them: Three people arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery and arson attacks
A large police operation was carried out early this Tuesday morning by detectives from the Investigative Police (PDI) in the province of Arauco, Biobío Region, resulting in the arrest of four individuals linked to the organization Resistencia Mapuche Lafkenche (RML).
Specifically, three people were arrested in connection with a case involving criminal conspiracy to commit robberies and arson attacks, while a fourth was caught in flagrante delicto.
The three arrested in the case were apprehended for events that occurred in February 2022, when a group of individuals carried out multiple consecutive violent acts in various sectors of the Arauco province, including the theft of six pickup trucks, according to the civil police.
The names of those arrested are Javier Ramirez Núñez, alias "el coipo," a business leader involved in timber theft; Nahuelan Llempi; Elias Cona Painemil; and Laura Maldonado Llanquileo, partner of Camilo Astete.
Prosecutor Juan Yáñez stated that among those captured is "a financier and one of the leaders" of the criminal organization. The police operation involved raids at multiple locations.
As a result, a roadblock was set up in the rural area of Lleu Lleu. The fourth individual was arrested for violating Law 20,000. The regional prosecutor's office will formally charge the defendants in the mentioned case, linking them directly to RML.
Further details of the police operation are expected to be released by the PDI later in the day.
