The Association of Forestry Contractors questioned the implementation of the results of the Presidential Commission for Peace and Understanding after Senator and co-chair of the body, Francisco Huenchumilla, stated that CAM is not a criminal organization.

A series of proposals to consolidate a long-term solution to the territorial conflict in the Southern Macrozone is part of the mandate of the Presidential Commission for Peace and Understanding, which is months away from concluding its work.

However, some are questioning the results of the body after one of its co-chairs and senator, Francisco Huenchumilla, claimed that the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM) is not a criminal organization.

The president of the Association of Forestry Contractors, René Muñoz, said the lawmaker's words are disrespectful to those living between the Bío Bío and Los Lagos regions.

In this regard, he asserted that CAM is a terrorist or criminal organization, stating that Senator Huenchumilla has a biased view and thus cast doubt on the results of the Presidential Commission for Peace and Understanding.

He is not the only one who disagrees with the lawmaker, as there are differing opinions within the body as well.

This is the case for member of the Presidential Commission for Peace and Understanding, Sebastián Naveillán, who stated that CAM is a terrorist organization and that the DC senator is mistaken.

The commission's mandate is focused on the regions where CAM has perpetrated a series of violent acts since the 1990s, a period marked by attacks on trucks and forestry properties under the banner of reclaiming Mapuche lands.
