Forestry Contractors Displeased by Changes to Safety Plan
- The Association of Forestry Contractors expressed its dissatisfaction with the modification made by the Ministry of Labor to the Safety Plan, which requires companies to take preventive measures outside the workplace.
The Association of Forestry Contractors voiced its discontent over the upcoming modification by the Ministry of Labor, which includes in the National Safety Policy for the 2024–2028 period that companies must "Adopt measures to reduce and mitigate risks associated with external violence affecting workplaces, especially in forestry production activities."
Regarding this initiative, contractors argue that it conflates workplace violence obligations with the state's responsibility in preventing and prosecuting external security threats, crime, and terrorism.
From the ministry, the Regional Labor Secretary, Sandra Quintana, explained that the plan addresses preventive safety measures that should be included in company protocols, not public security matters, which fall under police jurisdiction.
Additionally, the association urged the government to take charge of security, crime, and terrorism in the area and uphold the rule of law.
