Victoria Communities Reject Attack on Machinery
Unidentified individuals set fire to a road roller that was carrying out asphalt work on the Las Cardas route and the old road to Púa asphalt project, in the Victoria sector, La Araucanía Region.
The communities involved in the Las Cardas route asphalt project and the old road to Púa asphalt project, in the Victoria sector, La Araucanía Region, strongly condemned the attack against one of the machines belonging to the company in charge of the works.
Through a statement, the Ignacio Huenchullan, Antonio Huenuhueque, Domingo Trangol, Francisco Tori, Cahuin, Railao Tori 2, Manque Bayotoro, Martin Pichiquiñenao, and Pelon Mapu communities stated that actions of this kind go against "our needs and do not acknowledge the hardships our people have faced to access essential services like transportation."
They added, "We send warm greetings to all the personnel, workers, and laborers of the company and reaffirm our commitment to their safety and well-being during their stay in our communities' territory because we recognize the value of the work they are doing for our benefit."
"We also reinforce our commitment to the well-being of our own people, the students who must reach their schools, our elders who need healthcare, and all our community members who work day after day to support their families, as well as all those who longed for this project for so long," they emphasized.
They concluded by stating that connectivity is fundamental, which is why this project will change the lives of this generation. Finally, they expressed that their willingness has always been to collaborate and move this task forward in the best possible way, with agreement and dialogue among all related entities.
It is worth recalling that in a protest that escalated into violence, a road roller was damaged by fire in an arson attack on a property near a school in the town of Púa, Victoria. The incident, which occurred during the night, was attributed to unidentified individuals who left a message demanding the release of lonco Víctor Queipul.
