Government Has Not Yet Taken Legal Action Regarding Attacks on Surveillance Towers in Florida
Recent attacks and thefts targeting fire surveillance towers have raised concerns in the community ahead of the upcoming wildfire season.
The Presidential Delegation in the Biobío Region has not initiated legal actions following the attacks and thefts suffered by wildfire surveillance towers in Florida, despite communication attempts by the local municipality and the imminent arrival of a new fire season.
The first incident was recorded on September 30, when unknown individuals toppled a high-tech tower, valued at over 120 million pesos, owned by Arauco companies.
When questioned about the lack of legal complaints from the Government, Presidential Delegate Daniela Dresdner stated that legal actions would be taken once sufficient evidence is gathered. However, no concrete steps have been taken even after the theft of another communications tower.
Acting Mayor of Florida, Nicole Coronado, expressed her dissatisfaction with the limited response from the presidential delegation. A formal letter sent by the municipality has yet to receive a response, and concern is growing in the community due to the absence of these critical structures for fire surveillance.
The municipality hopes that Forestal Arauco can restore the surveillance tower and replace the affected communication equipment, as local emergency teams are suffering the consequences of these acts of vandalism.
Additionally, power outages were reported in Florida over the weekend, attributed to cable theft. In light of this situation, the municipality has requested the delegation to intervene and reinforce police patrols in the area.
The Florida community remains on alert, awaiting an effective response from the Government to ensure safety and prevention against wildfires that could severely impact the region.
