China and the United States Remain Top Destinations for Forestry and Agricultural Exports
The forestry and agricultural trade balance in the first nine months of 2024 reached USD 8.854 billion, marking a significant increase of 21% compared to the same period the previous year.
The Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa) reported that forestry and agricultural exports from January to September totaled US$ 15.215 billion, reflecting a 10% growth compared to the same period the previous year.
The main destination countries, ranked by their share of participation, were China (31%), the U.S. (21%), Japan (4%), Mexico (4%), the Netherlands (4%), South Korea (4%), Brazil (4%), and Colombia (2%).
Andrea García, director of Odepa, noted that "it is positively noteworthy that shipments of industrial forestry and agricultural products grew by 7% compared to the previous year, reaching US$ 8.177 billion in the mentioned period this year. Industrial sector products accounted for 54% of the total."
In the first nine months, agricultural shipments reached US$ 9.903 billion, a 12% increase. Meanwhile, livestock shipments amounted to USD 1.239 billion, rising by 4.9%. As for forestry shipments, they totaled US$ 4.073 billion, an 8.9% increase. All variations are compared to the same period in 2023.
From January to September 2024, the main exported categories were fresh and dried fruits; pulp; wines and spirits; processed fruits; manufactured wood; meats and byproducts; sawn wood; wood chips; seeds for planting; dairy products; processed vegetables; fresh vegetables; flowers, bulbs, tubers, and plants; and honey.
