Conaf activates 'red button' between Coquimbo and La Araucanía due to high probability of forest fires
According to officials, these territories are the most vulnerable to the occurrence of forest fires, which is why the call is for prevention.
The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) activated the so-called 'red button' between the regions of Coquimbo and La Araucanía.
According to officials, these territories are the most vulnerable to the occurrence of forest fires, which is why the call is for prevention.
The Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, explained that the 'red button' is a tool that analyzes temperature, humidity, wind speed, and the probability of combustion in the territory.
Thanks to this information, the necessary resources for disaster prevention can be managed and organized.
"The areas with the highest vulnerability are in the regions between Coquimbo and La Araucanía, which is why it has been established that these territories must remain alert and have all necessary logistics ready to strengthen prevention," stated the authority.
"It is necessary for citizens to assist in this task and take responsibility for our actions. We urge everyone to report, stay vigilant, and call the PDI, Carabineros, or CONAF's emergency line at 130," he added.
It is worth noting that, given the forecasted temperatures for this week, the probability of a critical scenario is high, which is why the National Wildfire Coordination Center is monitoring nearly 98 municipalities across the country.
Minister of Agriculture on the Wildfire Law
The Secretary of State also referred to the session of the Agriculture Committee in the Senate, where progress was made in processing the bill that will regulate forest fire prevention.
In this context, he stated that the Upper House lawmakers have accepted and approved a significant number of the articles to be included in the law.
"Today, the set of definitions that structure the framework of the instruments this law will have to prevent and mitigate forest fires were approved. This was an opportunity to explain how, in practice, this project will function, which was well received," concluded Valenzuela.
