The initiative addresses the need to improve efficiency in forest management and promote sustainable development in the Los Ríos region, strengthening the resilience of the wood production chain against the effects of climate change.

In the commune of La Unión, in the Los Ríos region, the Forestry Institute (INFOR) held the first workshop with CONAF extension agents to evaluate the functionality and usability of the prototype platform for the project "Adapting the Wood Production Chain: Online Management and Climate Change." This initiative is carried out by the Forestry Institute (INFOR) in collaboration with the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) and is funded through CORFO's "Public Goods" program. It aims to strengthen the management and commercialization of forest products.

Carlos Büchner, the project leader and a researcher at INFOR, explained, "We already have a prototype of the platform, and these workshops allow us to receive feedback from CONAF extension agents, who maintain direct and constant contact with forest owners. Their evaluation is key to ensuring that the system's functionalities accurately reflect forest information and its sustainable management. We are working on developing several information modules that we hope will be highly useful for all stakeholders involved," he detailed.

The project led by INFOR responds to the need to improve efficiency in forest management and promote sustainable development in the Los Ríos region, strengthening the resilience of the wood production chain against the effects of climate change. In this regard, the digital platform will optimize the supply and demand of forest products from sustainable management, generating both economic and environmental benefits.

"With this platform, we aim to connect forest producers with sawmills and other stakeholders requiring wood products. The idea is to create a collaborative network that optimizes the entire production chain," added Felipe Guzmán, a researcher at INFOR and responsible for the digital platform's implementation.

Workshops with CONAF extension agents will continue in the communes of Panguipulli and Valdivia in the coming months, with the goal of adjusting the platform to the needs of the forestry sector in the region.
