Unidentified individuals intercepted a truck carrying workers from a Forestal Arauco property, pointed a shotgun at them, and threatened to kill them if they did not leave the area. The Presidential Delegation commented that this was an act of violence linked to timber theft.
Guards Intimidated by Unidentified Individuals
Workers from a security company guarding the "El Descabezado" forest property, owned by Arauco, were intimidated by three men who arrived in a truck and intercepted them.
One of the individuals got out, aiming at them with a shotgun, while another, armed with a pistol on the driver's side, shouted at them and threatened to kill them if they did not leave the area.
Following this new act of violence, the Presidential Delegate of Arauco Province, Humberto Toro, acknowledged that there are prior incidents and an ongoing investigation in that area regarding timber theft. "These are security companies. They were reportedly intercepted on rural roads in the El Descabezado area and were threatened with firearms, including a shotgun, and ordered to leave immediately. The records we have had for a long time indicate that timber theft is occurring there, and therefore, we are in the investigative process," he stated.
After the threats and being held at gunpoint, the terrified workers left the property and went to the Curanilahue police station, where they filed a report and a complaint for attempted murder and threats.
