The statement from the terrorist group Weichán Auka Mapu (WAM), released in recent hours and admitting crimes linked to drug trafficking and the murder of civilians, sparked total rejection.

They stated, through a video with a distorted voice, that criminals with no connection to their indigenous cause had recently joined WAM.

They also reiterated that their enemies are forestry companies, large business owners, and all extractive activities, refusing to renounce violence to achieve territorial control.

René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors, stated that WAM's self-criticism confirms they operate with impunity and will continue to do so. "This does nothing but prove that this terrorist group is involved in and commits all the crimes we've seen in the southern macrozone. We're talking about cattle rustling, attacks, arson, vehicle theft, and drug-related issues. This self-criticism is a public declaration of what they're doing and will likely continue doing in the future," he said.

Regarding this statement, Andrés Jouannet, deputy for the Southern Macrozone and president of Amarillos, criticized the government for its passivity, stating that the administration taking office on March 11, 2026, will have the priority mission of eradicating such terrorist groups.

Meanwhile, Biobío's presidential delegate, Eduardo Pacheco, reacted to these statements, which he described as extremely serious. He took the opportunity to express full support for the Armed Forces working in provinces under a state of emergency, as well as for Carabineros and the PDI. He argued that people simply want to live in peace.

DC deputy Eric Aedo hopes these events will be promptly investigated by the judiciary, calling WAM's video statement "devoid of value,"in relation to the radical group's self-criticism.

Recall that Government Spokesperson Camila Vallejo said that, aside from messages or self-criticism from Weichán Auka Mapu,it would be relevant for them to provide evidence to the judiciary for investigation.

Finally, La Araucanía's regional prosecutor, Roberto Garrido, stated, "There is a notable difference between this statement and others we've seen before—for example, the number of people involved. Here, only five individuals are shown, whereas in other instances, we've seen much larger groups."

"It's also striking how little weaponry was used this time. It seems more like an attempt at image laundering regarding their ongoing actions," he added, as reported by UATV.

He also noted that several investigations are underway into violent incidents involving WAM members.
