Six people arrested in operation related to attack on Molino Grollmus: linked to RML

Christian Grollmus, one of the people present during the attack who tried to repel it, referred to the arrests made more than two years after the events.

When asked about what happened on the night of August 29, 2022, in the Tranguilboro sector of Contulmo, in the Bío Bío region, Cristian—son of Helmuth Grollmus, owner of the burned mill—said it was an "experience he wouldn’t wish on anyone."

"That was the most brutal day… the most brutal experience we’ve had to live through, and it’s an experience I wouldn’t give to anyone," expressed Grollmus.

However, he adds that now "we must reorganize and revive life, move forward, keep our feet firmly on the ground, and start working on this issue so that justice is served."

According to reports at the time, a group of heavily armed, hooded individuals set fire to the Mill, one of Contulmo’s main tourist attractions.

In total, three people were injured: Carlos Grollmus—who had to have a leg amputated—Cristian Cid, the property caretaker who suffered eye trauma, and Hellmuth Grollmus, an 85-year-old elderly man.

The latter, Christian’s father, died eight months after the attack. "They confirmed that the well-known businessman died this morning, as he never fully recovered mentally or physically from the attack he suffered alongside his cousin in August 2022. They even noted that he had lost his sense of life since then," reads a press note from this outlet about his death.

Regarding the arrests, Christian Grollmus said he has "mixed feelings, but also a sense of relief. A period of uncertainty comes to an end, and a more concrete period begins where we can pursue justice."

At least six people—linked to the Mapuche Lafkenche Resistance (RML)—were arrested in a PDI operation this Friday in the southern cone of Arauco province, Bío Bío region, related to the attack that destroyed Molino Grollmus in Contulmo in August 2022.

Regarding this, the regional prosecutor of Bío Bío, Marcela Cartagena, stated that "the arrest of six adult individuals was achieved, and they will be brought before a detention hearing today."

"These individuals directly participated in the attack known as the Molino Grollmus attack, an extremely serious incident," added Cartagena.

She also indicated that "the charges for which they will be formally accused include, among others, attempted homicide and arson."

After their capture, the detainees were transferred to the police unit in Talcahuano.
