The Contribution of Native Forests to the National Economy: A KISS Approach to a Sleeping Giant
Roberto Ipinza, a forestry engineer from the University of Chile and a Doctor of Forestry Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain), highlights the untapped economic potential of Chile's native forests. "While pine and eucalyptus plantations generate billions in exports, products from native forests barely account for a small fraction of that value. This imbalance reflects the lack of integration of native forests into the formal economy and their perception as a low-value resource, limited to uses such as firewood," he stated.
