In a surprise operation, Carabineros arrested seven individuals while they were stealing wood from a CMPC estate, using heavy machinery.

In a bold daylight robbery, seven individuals were captured by Carabineros while conducting illegal timber extraction on a property owned by CMPC. The incident took place in the town of Curaco, in the commune of Collipulli, and ended with the criminals being caught in the act thanks to the swift action of authorities.

The event occurred on a property located at kilometer 25 of Route R-49, where the individuals, equipped with specialized machinery, including a pneumatic machine, were loading a large truck with illegally cut wood. The operation was the result of a complaint filed by CMPC personnel, who alerted Carabineros about the illicit activity.

Officers responded promptly, managing to arrest all seven men while they were still in the process of loading the truck. The arrest in flagrante delicto has been a significant blow against illegal logging in the region, a problem that affects not only timber companies but also the environment and the local economy.

The detainees were taken to court for the corresponding legal proceedings, facing charges for theft of natural resources and possibly other crimes related to the illegal operation. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and reporting by companies and the community to protect natural resources and combat crime.

The swift intervention by Carabineros and the collaboration of CMPC have been key to preventing this criminal act from going unnoticed. The investigation continues to determine whether the detainees are part of a larger network dedicated to illegal logging and timber sales.

This case serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by authorities and forestry companies in protecting their assets and natural resources. Cooperation between stakeholders and effective law enforcement are essential to prevent and penalize these crimes.
