Confirmation that PDI Investigates Intentionality Behind Hualqui Fire Affecting 80 Hectares

The presidential delegate of the Biobío region, Eduardo Pacheco, confirmed that the Investigative Police (PDI) is looking into the intentionality alleged by CONAF regarding the Hualqui fire.

The Hualqui fire burned just over 80 hectares and, according to the latest reports, is now contained. However, due to its complexity, SAE (Early Emergency System) alerts were issued to evacuate nearby residents.

In this regard, the authority confirmed that the PDI will be in charge of investigating the intentionality behind this fire, as stated by the regional director of CONAF, Estaban Krausse.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Hualqui, Ricardo Fuentes, stated that the wildfire season had never started this early in the commune before. He added that three out of five fire outbreaks appeared to be "clearly intentional."

From CORMA in the Biobío region, its president, Alejandro Casagrande, expressed hope that institutions will act effectively, investigate the causes, and hold those responsible accountable.

It should be noted that over the weekend, another wildfire was recorded in the commune of Los Álamos, in the province of Arauco, which burned more than 500 hectares of forest and is also suspected to be intentional.
