The Provost family estimated losses at around $400 million pesos following the arson attack that affected their company early this morning in the Metrenco area of Padre Las Casas, in the La Araucanía region.

Around 3 a.m., a group of hooded individuals arrived at the premises, located about 13 kilometers south of Temuco, leaving six trucks and a car destroyed. Additionally, a volunteer firefighter was injured after a fall while extinguishing the flames.

The attack was claimed via a banner by the radical group Waichan Auka Mapu (WAM), referencing Luis Tranamil, sentenced to 32 years for the murder of Corporal Eugenio Naín on October 30, 2020.

“You cannot live peacefully in La Araucanía”

The son of the company owners affected by this violent act, Nicolás Provost, reported that the damages amount to approximately $400 million. “Six trucks were completely burned, along with a couple of ramps and vehicles inside, plus other damages.”

After the incident, the victim stated, “You can no longer live peacefully in La Araucanía, as they don’t even let us work, we can’t be at ease. My family worked their whole lives with these trucks, and in one night, they come and burn everything.”

He assured that the attack caught them off guard, as they never received any threats hinting at what could happen. According to him, only some of the trucks were insured.

He also called on authorities to take control, as those responsible “are roaming freely everywhere, and you can’t even feel safe on the highway.”

So far, forensic examinations by the Investigative Police have not found any bullet casings.
