Acoforag: Any attempt at dialogue under threats or in a context of violence undermines the basic principles of the Rule of Law
The Association of Forestry Contractors A.G. expresses its absolute rejection of the recent statements by the presidential delegate of La Araucanía, Eduardo Abdala, who stated that he does not close the door to dialogue with the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), affirming that they must have "explicit gestures" and "verify their demands," although he indicated that the conditions are not currently in place.
In light of this scenario, we declare that:
- There can be no negotiation with weapons on the table. Any attempt at dialogue under threats or in a context of violence undermines the basic principles of the Rule of Law.
- The acts perpetrated by groups like the CAM have left a trail of destruction, insecurity, and fear in the southern macrozone, affecting workers, communities, and the forestry sector as a whole.
- We find it incomprehensible that government representatives consider it viable to dialogue with organizations responsible for acts of violence, as this could be interpreted as legitimizing their methods.
We call on the authorities to act firmly and to protect citizens, workers, and the development of the region. Social peace can only be achieved if justice, security, and respect for the Rule of Law are guaranteed.
