"Our intention has been to work deeply for a year and a half," said Senator Aravena, who detailed the commission's progress.

In January, the report from the Commission for Peace and Understanding may be delivered to President Gabriel Boric, originally scheduled for late November.

This was reported by Senator and commission member Carmen Gloria Aravena, who stated that the initiative "is nearing its conclusion."

"Our intention has been to work deeply for a year and a half, and much of the effort has gone into systematizing and diagnosing in practice the reality of indigenous lands—how much has been granted, how much remains to be granted, and estimating the costs," said the legislator from La Araucanía.

Additionally, she mentioned that alongside this, they have been addressing "a lot of other aspects related to cultural issues, recognition, languages, history, and many things that, in one way or another, also help facilitate dialogue and interculturality, which is so important, and above all, peace."

Along these lines, she affirmed that "we have until January 13" to advance the discussions.

"We are intensifying our work, meeting practically twice a week. Each of us has other responsibilities—I must reiterate that we commissioners are volunteers in this, we are not paid, as there have been voices suggesting otherwise, which I find very inappropriate. We hope that what is presented will be, as many unions have said, something reasonable, achievable, and free from, let's say, any kind of criticism, which will always arise regarding the proposals we make," she stated.
